Composer Linda Tutas Haugen took a trip over the rainbow for one of her projects--four songs based on poems written by Judy Garland. The works were premiered at the 1998 Judy Garland Festival in Grand Rapids, Minn., and were part of the pilot project for Continental Harmony.

Haugen, a native of Kenosha, Wis., received her B.A. in music from St. Olaf College and her M.A. in music composition and theory from the University of Minnesota, where she studied with Dominick Argento and Paul Fetler. She has written various works for full symphony orchestra, chamber ensembles, and choir, as well as liturgical music.

Haugen has received numerous commissions and awards during the last 20 years, including an Artist Fellowship from the Minnesota State Arts Board; commissions from the Jerome Foundation and the American Composers Forum; and a residency in Grand Forks, N.D., as part of Meet The Composer's New Residencies program.
